Bio

Dr. Halil I. Tasova is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Teacher Education and Foundations at California State University-San Bernardino. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia, as well as an M.S. and B.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Marmara University in Turkiye. With a background as a former high school mathematics teacher, Dr. Tasova brings valuable classroom experience to his current role.

Dr. Tasova's research is centered around understanding how students engage in mathematical thinking and learning, specifically through their reasoning about varying quantities. His work focuses on investigating how students construct and interpret graphs from the perspectives of quantitative and covariational reasoning. By delving into these areas, he aims to contribute to the advancement of mathematics education.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Halil Tasova actively engages with the mathematics education community. He has participated in numerous professional development projects for in-service mathematics teachers in both Georgia and California. Dr. Tasova finds great value in collaborating with teachers to understand student thinking through Lesson Study cycles. His expertise has led him to facilitate professional learning sessions for both in-service and pre-service teachers at conferences such as the Georgia Mathematics Conference and the California Mathematics Council-South Annual Mathematics Conference.

In his personal life, Dr. Tasova cultivates various hobbies and interests. He finds joy in playing traditional Turkish musical instruments like the bağlama and bendir. Exploring Turkish cuisine and cooking are also among his passions. Additionally, he enjoys gardening, fishing, and going on bike rides with his son and daughter, fostering meaningful connections beyond the academic realm.
