Stuart Sumida, professor of biology, understands the importance of diversity at CSUSB. According to Sumida, when students experience diversity in the classroom, it prepares them for life after college.

“The workforce in Southern California, in the Inland Empire, in the state of California is diverse. So our students are already experiencing in the classroom what they’ll experience when they graduate and when they move into the workforce,” said Sumida.

Sumida is of mixed ethnic background, and the diversity at CSUSB helped him feel right at home. However, at Cal State San Bernardino, diversity extends beyond ethnicity and includes students of different ages and gender.

Diversity is a vital part of CSUSB, and Sumida is a proud member of a faculty who represent various backgrounds, thoughts and experiences.
