Multiple factors impacting national and local economy

The latest measure of the Inland Empire’s economic performance may suggest an impending downturn. The Purchasing Managers’ Index registered a decrease last month. It was the first month with a drop below the 50% baseline after five consecutive months in growth mode, the Institute of Applied Research at Cal State San Bernardino reported.

Barbara Sirotnik, director of the institute, said “The wars in Ukraine and Israel, continuing inflation, and congressional gridlock have severely impacted the global, national, statewide, and local economy.”

“When violent conflicts occur in the Middle East, there are those in the U.S. that exploit these horrifying events to inflame antisemitism,” said Brian Levin, a professor emeritus and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino. “Now, we are seeing such a dizzying array of antisemitism online, on campuses and on the streets that it is testing the ability of researchers like me to keep track of it.”
