Online sites such as 8chan present new challenges in fighting terrorism, CSUSB professor saysVice NewsMay 8, 2019 Sites like 8chan and others where racists can get radicalized online are key to counterterrorism efforts, experts say, but in a Wednesday Congressional hearing on domestic terrorism, U.S. intel officials from the FBI, DOJ and DHS seemed fairly unfamiliar with those platforms — or what to do about them. “Among the new terror challenges is for the intelligence community to be analyzing public information on these platforms to interdict violence when there is a criminal predicate,” said Brian Levin, who leads the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino. Levin added that intelligence officials’ apparent unfamiliarity with sites like 8chan was “surprising” given recent events. Read the complete article at “8chan Is a Mysterious Place to U.S. Anti-Terrorism Officials.”

CSUSB professor offers analysis of latest developments in the multinational agreement with Iran over its development of nuclear fuelPress TVMay 8, 2019 David Yaghoubian, professor of history, was interviewed about Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani announcement that the country would take a new approach to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the multinational agreement that aimed to limited Iran’s capacity to produce nuclear fuel for 15 years. A year ago, the Trump administration pulled the U.S. out of the accord, a move opposed by partners Britain, France and Germany. Yaghoubian commented on Iran acting a year after the Trump administration’s decision to leave the agreement. “I think that Iran needed to demonstrate, as it did, its strategic patience and interest in diplomacy to optimally enable not only the continuation of the JCPOA, but its full implementation by all parties, which would include the United States,” Yaghoubian said. “And so, as President Rouhani mentioned in his long and wide-ranging speech, which I did hear all of, the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) has certified 14 times that Iran is in complete compliance with the necessities and requirements of the JCPOA, whereas the United States clearly, for the last year after having pulled out, is not in compliance. And furthermore, I would say the United States was never in compliance, even under President Obama, since the promised relinquishment of sanctions never really materialized.” See the complete online video segment at “Rouhani: Iran to stop selling excess heavy water, enriched uranium for 60 days.” Press TV is a 24-hour English language news and documentary network affiliated with Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
