New CSUSB faculty member J.V. Decemvirale will present his lecture A Decolonial Excavation of the Days of the Dead
This lecture invites audiences to explore the origins of the Day of the Dead in Los Angeles. Following extensive research cataloging the first five years of this beloved Chicano tradition, this lecture offers an in-depth overview of the first iterations of the celebration in East Los Angeles from 1973-1978. Detailing how the festivity became increasingly popular in East Los Angeles, the lecture will offer an introductory overview into one of Los Angeles’ most important socially engaged and collaborative artworks.
