The Bufflehead is a rare winter visitor to campus between November and March in the flooded basins around Badger Hill. The Bufflehead is a fairly common wintering bird in southern California, and can be found on most bodies of water.The adult male Bufflehead can be identified by its white underparts and black upperparts with a large white quarter-circle above and behind the eye. Females and young males are white below and dark gray above with a small white oval patch below the eye.
