The Greater Roadrunner is a rare and secretive year-round, breeding resident in coastal sage scrub in the CSUSB Preserve. With luck you may see one running through the coastal sage scrub, darting across North Campus Circle, or sunning itself in the early morning on an exposed perch. It is an uncommon year-round, breeding resident in the deserts, foothills, and coastal lowlands of southern California.High Count: 4, Average Count: 1The Greater Roadrunner is unmistakable; it has a dark head, breast, and upperparts all with tan or white streaking, a long dark tail, and a whitish belly. The dark feathers of the upperparts and tail often show green iridescence.
