Cody the Coyote Shows Student Veteran Support

The Student Veterans Organization (SVO) is a community run by veterans for veterans.

The SVO’s purpose is to assist veterans, dependents of veterans, active duty personnel, and veteran supporters in their academic, social, and career success. They provide an atmosphere for veterans and the veteran affiliates listed above to engage in social connections and networking opportunities.

Giving back to the community through volunteering is the primary way the SVO is able to achieve its goals. Over the last year, several members volunteered as judges for the Fontana High School JROTC Drill Meet, and worked at various ceremonies. The SVO has volunteered for annual events like the Air Force Birthday, the Marine Corps Ball, and the Navy Birthday. They have also worked at special events, including the Veterans Graduation Ceremony and the candlelight vigil for the victims of the December 2nd shooting. The organization takes the most pride in providing labor that helps to maintain the Veterans Exploration Garden doing landscaping, painting, gardening, and more. Most recently, members of the SVO volunteered for Coyote Cares Day, working at the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Because of their hard work and dedication, the SVO was able to accumulate enough hours to earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The organization has been nationally recognized as a recipient of the $10,000 Vet Center Initiative through the Student Veterans of America and the Home Depot Foundation. They have also received thousands of dollars in funding from other sources that have helped to sponsor large scale events on campus such as Military Appreciation Night, Memorial Day, and more.
