Student Affairs Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month kicked off in February and will be celebrated at CSUSB with a variety of virtual events in honor of the accomplishments made by African Americans. The month-long celebration highlights the culture, heritage, achievements, and resiliency of the African American community while honoring past and current trailblazers. Departments, programs, and centers in the division participated in the festivities by collaborating and hosting events throughout the month. Student Affairs is proud to take part in this annual celebration.

“While it is important to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans during Black History Month, it is my hope that with the programming provided during the month, we acknowledge that Black people and Blackness exists outside of the month of February,” said Charles Gaylord, Pan-African Student Success Center Coordinator and Black History Month Committee co-chair. “In addition to the sustained efforts from various campus departments, I hope that we can continue to promote the retention, development, and success of our Black student population year-round on campus.”

Charles added, “In order to make Cal State San Bernardino a more just, equitable, and inclusive campus for our entire student body, efforts aimed at our Black student population must remain a constant priority.”
