Meet Ashley Howard

She is the Black Scholars Program Academic Advisor. Ashley joined the Coyote family in 2018 and brought with her a wealth of experience, previously having positions at Cal Baptist University and Azusa Pacific University.

At CSUSB, she first served as an advisor in the College of Extended and Global Education before taking on her current role. In her role, Ashley’s main focus is student academic advising and retention. She ensures that students have the knowledge, resources, and support to excel at CSUSB and after graduation. Ashley also advocates for students, provides mentorship, and helps guide students on their educational journey.

In addition, the Black Scholars Program hosts programs and workshops throughout the year. This month, the program will be collaborating with the Pan-African Student Success Center to host Welcome Black Social on Monday, Feb. 21, from 12-1 p.m. at the Santos Manuel Student Union North, room 3307.

“We’re doing a 90s theme social for our students where it’s just an opportunity for them to meet each other, hang out, and also [learn] about the Pan-African Student Success Center and the Black Scholars Program,” said Ashley.

At the event, students will learn about resources while enjoying music, games, and a fashion competition inspired by 90s culture.

For Ashley, one of the best parts about her job is seeing students succeed and graduate.

“I think at Cal State San Bernardino, or just being in higher education in general, it’s seeing the students start and finish,” said Ashley.
