Meet Francisco Alfaro! He is the Rancho Mirage Student Center Coordinator. Francisco has served CSUSB in a variety of roles at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. He spent five years at the San Bernardino campus as a student assistant with the SMSU Program Board and graduate student assistant with the Office of Student Engagement. He then transitioned to the Palm Desert campus, where he has been for the past five years. He was the Student Engagement Coordinator, where he supervised the Rancho Mirage Student Center (RMSC) and Student Fitness Center, before taking on his current role as Rancho Mirage Student Center Coordinator.

In this role, Francisco oversees the day-to-day operations of the center with his team of four student assistants. While located at the Palm Desert campus, the Rancho Mirage Student Center is part of the Santos Manuel Student Union. It provides an inclusive space for students to build community and connect outside of the classroom.

It strives to provide similar services as the centers at the San Bernardino campus, including events, such as Snow Day, game show nights, dances, and more. The center also provides students free testing materials and black-and-white printing services. Students can print four pages daily (eight pages double sided). Some of the center’s additional services for students include access to computer stations, on-campus referrals, and snacks, such as popcorn.

The center serves as a one-stop shop for students at the Palm Desert campus. It takes proud in being a campus-wide resource for students to come by and ask questions. The RMSC staff is trained to know all things Palm Desert campus to help direct students to the appropriate department or person outside the center. They also connect students to resources and services at the San Bernardino campus.

“It’s building community, building opportunities for students to come together and to hopefully build the support they need,” said Francisco.

According to Francisco, the best part about his job is building connections with the students.

“I can relate to a lot of their stories and the backgrounds that they come from, so it's just really empowering to be able to help make connections,” said Francisco. “I think that's what I like the most.”

The center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Follow the Rancho Mirage Student Center on Instagram @rmsc_at_pdc for additional resources. Call 909-537-8231 or click the link below for more information.
