Coyote Cares Day Allows Participants to Make a Difference From Home

5k run

This year, Coyote Cares Day was held virtually Oct. 19-24, allowing participants to make a difference from home. Student Affairs came out to support and help raise money for the charity Feeding America by participating in the virtual 5K on one of three teams: San Bernardino campus, Palm Desert campus, and Pre-College Programs. More than 530 CSUSB staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and students registered for the free mobile app Charity Miles to participate in the event. The app tracked participants’ movements using the GPS on their phones, earning money for the charity by how far they went. Each earned 10 cents a mile for biking and 25 cents a mile for walking and running. The CSUSB community and alumni logged an impressive 10,600 miles during the event, and as a result, a donation of $2,120 was made to Feeding America. Overall, enough funds were raised to purchase about 17,000 meals through Feeding America.
