[ Music ] >> I really love that we have such a diverse population here of students here at Cal State San Bernardino. You know, I feel like I'm showing them things and giving them opportunities and possibly like illustrating a way in life that they might not have realized was even possible. So in some ways I feel like the impact I'm having is more profound than if I was teaching at a school that didn't necessarily have such a diverse population. So that really makes me feel like I'm doing a great job. You know, the diversity of the campus was really, really appealing to me. I had taught at other schools and there was just something special about here at Cal State San Bernardino that I thought I could really make a mark and have an impact on people's lives in ways that I didn't think would happen quite so profoundly in other institutions. One thing I think that we do really well here in the Department of Art and Design is model and present lots of potential opportunities for career paths for students. There's many more ways to exist in the art world than just being the artist that works in their studio, makes something, and then tries to sell it. You know, that's not always viable. That's not always sustainable. And I think we show students and instill in them the ability to be resourceful, to be multi or interdisciplinary or use skills that they didn't think were going to be important but end up being really, really important once they graduate from school. So I think, you know, students come here maybe not sure like where they fit or where they think their careers will go. And I think, you know, we don't necessarily direct them in a particular way but I think we give them the foundation and groundwork so that they can go and establish their own career, whatever that may be.
