00:00 [ Music ] 00:05 >> My passion in kinesiology stems from being a young athlete and wanting to be able 00:12 to be bigger, faster, stronger to be able to perform better, and along the way, 00:18 during that road, I would have certain injuries. 00:21 So, I wanted to figure out how do I prevent these injuries, 00:24 how do I recover from these injuries. 00:27 So, that's where my passion stemmed from. 00:29 I teach a variety of classes in the exercise science curriculum, primarily, 00:33 ranging from Sports Nutrition, Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries, 00:37 all the way to one of our field experience classes. 00:42 The ability to be able to inspire young minds and be able to help them become professionals 00:48 in their field was something that's always been very intriguing to me. 00:51 I love giving them the educational opportunities with a practical application 00:56 so they can be good working professionals. 00:59 My doctorate is in Athletic Training, so I do a lot of the sports medicine related courses, 01:04 but I'm also a sports nutritionist, so I do sports nutrition as well, 01:08 and a lot of my research is dedicated to the areas of sports nutrition, 01:12 performance enhancement, and sports medicine. 01:15 The impact that food has on our body, not only to promote health but also 01:19 to change our appearance, not only internally but also externally as well. 01:25 Because I spent so many years in the field, I incorporate my area of expertise 01:30 by bringing real life scenarios, real life patient care, real life clients that I've worked 01:36 with and really try to bridge the gap between what's being preached in the classroom 01:41 and the research and practical applications and real world problems that you may run into. 01:48 Over the last, I would say, five to ten years, we have hired some amazing faculty members 01:55 that are very diverse and are actually very active in the field of kinesiology, 02:00 not only in their publications, but also in their presentations. 02:04 That being said, we've been able to incorporate and bring along a lot 02:09 of our students to be part of our research. 02:11 Now, when we go to different conferences, people are taking note 02:16 of CSUSB, and they recognize our campus. 02:19 A lot of our faculty members actually speak at national, regional, 02:24 and international conferences, which says a lot when you're asked to speak 02:29 at large conferences and CSUSB is represented. 02:33 My name is Guillermo Escalante. 02:36 I love CSUSB, and I'm a Coyote for life. 02:39 [ Music ] 02:40 [ Coyote howl ] We Define the Future English
