53:13 but i want to also highlight some of our 53:16 educational partners 53:18 i'm really excited and proud to announce 53:21 that we have 53:22 educational partners in this program and 53:25 two of them 53:26 are here with us today 53:30 and you know as industries look to 53:32 create registered apprenticeship 53:33 programs 53:34 with more complex roles that require 53:37 upper division coursework developing 53:40 partnerships with our 53:41 four-year academic institutions across 53:43 the state becomes 53:45 ever more critical and so we're just 53:48 again really fortunate about the assets 53:50 in the inland empire so 53:51 the cal state university san bernardino 53:54 or csu san bernardino 53:56 is a national leader in cyber security 53:58 education and workforce development 54:00 leading the 335 colleges and 54:03 universities that make up 54:04 the centers of academic excellence in 54:07 cyber security community 54:10 it is also home to the nice the nice 54:13 nice challenge project which is a 54:15 national 54:16 competency-based virtual cyber range 54:19 used by more than 400 colleges and high 54:22 schools to test students cyber 54:24 skills and employment readiness for 54:26 cyber careers 54:28 and then we also have cal poly pomona 54:30 which serves at the nexus of los angeles 54:32 county 54:33 orange county and and the inland empire 54:36 and as the nation's most diverse 54:38 polytechnic university 54:40 cal poly pomona is a national leader in 54:42 preparing career ready graduates through 54:44 world-class academic training 54:46 unique learn by doing experiences and 54:48 close integration with a host of 54:50 industry 54:51 public and community partners and 54:53 president coley who is here 54:55 was also appointed by the governor to 54:57 his future of work commission and i was 54:58 so grateful to be able to work with her 55:00 closely there 55:01 so i'm actually going to start with 55:03 president morales 55:05 president thomas morales would you 55:07 please tell us 55:09 how the apprenticeship partnerships that 55:11 you are developing with employers like 55:12 robert half and esri 55:14 will enhance student outcomes uh by 55:17 better preparing them to become 55:19 uh security professionals 55:22 yeah you know i said thank you uh 55:24 secretary sue 55:25 and and congratulations to alma and 55:27 gabriel and 55:29 and uh for their just incredible uh uh 55:31 motivation 55:32 and accomplishments and thank all of our 55:35 business partners 55:37 um you know as the only california state 55:39 university campus located 55:41 within the inland empire and ranked 55:43 number seven 55:44 in the country among the most 55:46 transformative colleges for graduating 55:49 economically disadvantaged students 55:51 into well-paying jobs cal state san 55:54 bernardino 55:55 stands ready to help lead this exciting 55:58 apprenticeship initiative 56:00 focused on our region by leveraging our 56:02 work 56:03 at the national level where we have 56:05 successfully partnered 56:07 with federal agencies to build a diverse 56:10 cyber workforce 56:11 this apprenticeship initiative is about 56:14 building on those successes 56:16 by focusing on our efforts on engaging 56:20 with our local employers in the region 56:25 no it's amazing president morales and 56:27 you know apprenticeships really um 56:30 work best right when they are paired 56:32 with uh you know 56:33 gold standard curriculum and training 56:36 that's offered through academic 56:37 institutions like yours 56:39 uh thank you also for bringing this back 56:40 to alma and gabriel um alma mentioned 56:43 that the strong connectivity between the 56:45 colleges and the employers 56:47 in the apprenticeship program has really 56:49 helped her 56:51 it's created a supportive framework and 56:53 environment in which 56:54 you know we really kind of put students 56:56 first can you talk about what 56:58 um csu san bernardino has planned to 57:01 to to to help make sure that this 57:04 happens 57:05 yeah you know at cal state san 57:07 bernardino we really um 57:09 we've really taken this challenge 57:11 head-on 57:12 including the recent submission of a 57:14 grant proposal 57:16 to the national security agency to 57:18 create a national model 57:20 for apprenticeships starting right here 57:23 in the inland empire 57:24 csusb has already internally approved 57:27 programs 57:28 and apprenticeship programs with 57:30 partners such as robert half 57:32 and soon with esri as well as with four 57:36 other organizations 57:38 in the inland empire and last week 57:41 we signed an mou with the american 57:43 council on education 57:45 or ace to develop apprenticeship 57:48 articulation agreements between 57:51 companies and colleges 57:52 throughout the nation this mou 57:56 is part of ace apprenticeship 58:00 pathway initiative and it will establish 58:03 a cyber pathway pilot program 58:06 at cal state san bernardino this will be 58:09 key to providing unique opportunities 58:12 for current and aspiring inland empire 58:16 cyber security talent 58:18 we have already been working with our 58:20 high school and community college 58:22 partners 58:23 develop a cyber security apprenticeship 58:25 pipeline 58:26 to grow the cyber talent in the region 58:29 and so 58:30 we're really well positioned and ready 58:33 to support this innovative regional 58:36 apprenticeship 58:37 model to help address the critical needs 58:40 for more cyber professionals 58:42 and more diverse cyber professionals in 58:45 private industry 58:47 in the public sectors oh thank you so 58:50 much president morales i just want to 58:51 also 58:52 acknowledge you you know our early 58:54 conversations about this were 58:55 uh you know your enthusiasm is so 58:57 infectious your leadership and 58:59 you know again assets in the ie um 59:02 you know what you've created and what 59:03 your leadership has brought has been 59:05 just really extraordinary 59:06 and maybe i'll just say um one more 59:07 thing you've already you know uh really 59:09 talked about the various partnerships 59:11 that you have 59:11 and i think this you know we connected 59:13 about the desire to retain 59:15 talent um you know in the area um and 59:18 um you know obviously we know that 59:21 there's there's the various partnerships 59:22 there's also 59:23 the national partnerships that you have 59:25 can you talk a little bit about what 59:26 your 59:27 local industry engagement strategy looks 59:29 like to incentivize more employers in 59:31 the region 59:32 to sign on to the cyber security 59:33 registered apprenticeship program i mean 59:35 it makes sense right because you are 59:37 educating um uh their workforce um 59:40 what how do you see your role in 59:42 bringing more employers to the table 59:44 well you know both kim wilcox from the 59:46 university of california riverside and i 59:48 co-chair 59:49 the ieep educational council 59:53 we work very closely with all of the 59:55 business partners 59:57 um that you invited today uh in this 60:00 launch 60:01 uh esri uh uh well all of us 60:05 uh you know obviously low melinda 60:06 university um 60:08 cal state san bernardino is is an anchor 60:11 institution 60:12 in riverside in san bernardino counties 60:15 we're stewards of place 60:16 um we work very closely i'm on the 60:19 executive committee 60:20 of i.e go which is really 60:23 one of our pillars is cyber security um 60:28 as as logistics as a logistics research 60:31 center 60:32 is another one where cyber security 60:34 plays an important role 60:36 so we're working very closely both with 60:39 our community college partners 60:40 our high schools and our business 60:43 partners
