Subject Matter Preparation

The Single Subject Credential Program at CSUSB is accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The program currently offers subject matter preparation in the following disciplines:

  • ART
  • ENGLISH
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGES (French, Spanish)
  • MATHEMATICS
    • FOUNDATIONA-LEVEL MATHEMATICS
  • HISTORY
  • MUSIC
  • PHYSICAL EDUCATION
    • ADATPIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
  • SCIENCE (Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences or Physics)
    • FOUNDATIONAL-LEVEL SCIENCE
  • SOCIAL SCIENCE

The Single Subject Program at CSUSB offers three pathways:

With the exception of the supervised field experience, the three pathways are identical in the coursework and performance expectations.

The Program provides candidates with the skills and expertise to provide academic instruction for English Learners and students with special needs in secondary schools. 

Early Completion Option

The Early Completion Intern Option is intended to provide individuals who have requisite skills and knowledge an opportunity to challenge the course work portion of a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Intern Program (does not apply to Education Specialist Intern Programs) and demonstrate pedagogical skills through a performance assessment while in a Commission-approved intern program.
