Dr. Mary Texeira is a professor of sociology at California State University San Bernardino. In the nearly 19 years that she has been at the university her research, teaching, and service have merged. Her focus has been on social inequality, especially as it pertains to race and ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality. These aspects of social inequality take center stage in her classes on families, media and criminology. She has been an active member of both the campus and greater Inland Empire community, serving on committees as varied as teaching, faculty promotion and retention, and diversity. She is most proud of her work on behalf of families as an executive board member of a local domestic violence shelter, Option House, Inc. an agency that has served the community for over 30 years.
