Bio

Before earning his PhD in social welfare at Florida International University (FIU) in 2017, Dr. Joseph attended Florida Atlantic University (FAU) between 2010 and 2012 for undergraduate and graduate studies in social work. He also earned a law degree from Haiti State University Cap-Haitian Law School in 2003. Dr. Joseph’s interest in social work stems from his background working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups of people. Between 2012 and 2014, he worked as a family therapist providing micro/mezzo level interventions to underprivileged children, adolescents, and families in South Florida. Since 2014 he has devoted himself to macro social work practice via teaching and research both during his time as a graduate research assistant and adjunct professor at Florida International University as well as in his current position of assistant professor at California State University San Bernardino. Although he can teach across the social work curriculum, Dr. Joseph has developed a great affinity for certain classes, including human behavior and the social environment, theoretical approaches to social problems, social welfare policy, social work research methods, human diversity and social work, the social work profession, and macro social work practice. In terms of research, Dr. Joseph focuses primarily on poverty and social welfare policies, economic wellbeing among low-income families, evaluation of program effectiveness, theory and scale development, social justice paradigm.
