Requirements for Admission

Ready to begin your MBA journey? We have a two-step admission process:

Step 1 – Eligibility Process

The MBA Online for Professionals requires two years of work experience in a management or leadership role. That can be defined as overseeing staff, major programs, budgets, administrative accounts, data, equipment/facilities or resource management. 

Submit your résumé to find out if you’re eligible to apply:

  • A résumé should outline relevant work experience with the month and year for each position. Include specific job responsibilities describing your management or leadership experience.

Step 2 – Admissions Requirement

Applicants must meet these minimum conditions:

  1. Completed a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent course of study at a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Attained a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 90 units of course work. (Applications with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 will be considered for exceptional admission by the program and Dean of Graduate Studies.)
  3. Maintained good standing at the last college attended.

Admission Supporting Documents Required

Before completing your application within Cal State Apply, you will be asked to submit the following:

  1. A 250-word Statement of Purpose, outlining your goals that an MBA will help you achieve, and that demonstrates your commitment to furthering your education. 
  2. Two letters of recommendation from managers/supervisors or colleagues familiar with your work history.
  3. Unofficial transcripts must be submitted for ALL previous academic work attempted and proof of your Bachelor's degree. (CSUSB alumni do not need to submit CSUSB transcripts). If admitted into the program, all official transcripts must be submitted and in their original sealed envelope (not tampered with), to be considered official.)

International Transcripts:

If your degree is from an institution outside of the US, the official mark sheets and diploma will need to be submitted to the International Admission Office at the following address:

If the primary language of instruction for your previous degree was not in English, you may be required to submit an official passing TOEFL/IELTS score. 

  • If you have a TOEFL score of 550/79 or higher or an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher (within the past two years), please submit your official score to CSUSB International Admissions. 


If you would like to request to have the TOEFL/IELTS waived, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Attended a U.S. educational institution for three years, full-time (108 transferable quarter units)
  • Attended at least three full years at a U.S. high school
  • Earned a Bachelor’s or higher degree from a United States educational institution 
  • Participated in an institution in a country where the native language is English
  • Earned a Bachelor’s or higher degree from an institution where the primary language of instruction is English

**Fall 2020 begins the Semester system at CSUSB. Each Semester consists of two 6-week sessions.
