Changes to Google Drive

As of March 12, 2018, Google will be ending support for the desktop “Google Drive” application and has introduced 2 new products to replace it -- “Backup and Sync” and “Drive File Stream”.  The web based portion of Google Drive remains unchanged, and files that you have stored in Google Drive will not be impacted.

Backup and Sync works like the original Google Drive desktop application, while adding additional features for users to back up their local computer files.

These new Drive File Stream applications will allow users to quickly access their Google Drive files on demand without having the files stored locally. An internet connection is required to access the files. However, users can choose specific folders and files and make them available offiline.
