Moving to Office 365
CSUSB has identified Microsoft’s cloud-based Office 365 product as the replacement for the university’s current Microsoft Exchange based email system for faculty and staff. Email accounts on CSUSB's Exchange email system will be scheduled to move to Office 365 on a departmental and user group basis. Technology Operations & Customer Support will coordinate these moves with each academic and administrative department.
What happens once email account is moved?
On your scheduled migration day, once we have completed migrating the contents of your old email account into your new Office 365 account, your Office 365 account will be activated and all incoming email will be delivered only to your Office 365 account.
Once your Office 365 account has been activated, you will need to restart all instance of Outlook, log out and back into OWA and reconfigured all IMAP and Active Sync devices. Please follow the steps found in: Configuring Office 365 Clients.
Office 365 Pre-Migration Preparations
Step 1. Review Your Deleted Items Folder
Items in the "Deleted Items" folder will only be retained for 30 days following the migration. The 30-day retention policy only applies to the “Deleted Items” folder. If you wish to retain mail items found in the “Deleted Items” folder please move them to a different folder.
Step 2. Identify Large Emails/Attachments
Large emails or emails with large attachments may slow down or prohibit the migration process. You can prevent problems from arising by checking your inbox and other folders for messages larger then 35MB by searching for “messagesize:>34 MB” in Outlook and OWA clients
Step 3. Make a backup of your signature and rules
Signatures and rules do not migrate to Office 365, so they will need to be backed up and imported or recreated. Make a backup of your signature and rules by following the instructions found here:
