MyCoyote Account Re-Activation

As part of a CSU-wide security hygiene project to improve information security, the campus will be requiring all active account holders to re-activate their MyCoyote account starting on June 1, 2021. This will be implemented in 10 waves depending on the last digit of your CoyoteID.

Account reactivation timeline

How will it affect me?

  • Beginning June 1, 2021, users will start see a warning message based on the implementation schedule below. If their account has not been reactivated, they will be prompted to reactivate their account when they log in using the campus Single Sign On. The warning message will disappear after an account has been reactivated.

  • On September 30, 2021, users will not be able to access CSUSB systems if their account has not been reactivated.

  • It is highly encouraged that users complete their account reactivation prior to June 2021 to avoid seeing the warning message.

  • Users who have activated their account and have established a new passphrase/password after January 1, 2021 will not be required to reactivate their account again.

What do I need to do?

Beginning June 1, 2021, you will be prompted to reactivate your CSUSB account when you log onto any campus Single Sign-On systems. You may also activate your account by going to the Account Activation link at https://www.csusb.edu/my-account. Following the prompts, you will be asked to complete 4 different steps to verify your personal information, answer security questions, provide account recovery information, and select a new passphrase/password.

Once you have reactivated your account in the new system, you will be able to take advantage of new features in our new Identity Management System including:

  • Recovering your account using SMS text message
  • Recovering your account using your personal email
  • Recovering your account by answering your security questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Will my CoyoteID change?

A: No, your CoyoteID will remain the same.

Q: Will I need to select a new passphrase/password?

A: Yes, you will be required to select a new password that meets the current Access Control Standard. Passphrase/password complexity includes:

  • Minimum of 12 characters (longer is generally better)
  • At least one character from each of the following:
  • One Upper case letter (A-Z)
  • One Lower case letter (a-z)
  • One Special Character (non-alphanumeric)
  • One Numeric character (0-9) 

Q: Will I need to select new security questions?

A: Yes, you will be required to select new security questions. You will need to answer these questions correctly to recover your account.

Q: Why do I need to provide my personal email address?

A: Providing your personal email address will allow you to receive a one-time code to restore your account in the event you forgot your password or if you are locked out of your account.

Q: Why do I need to provide my mobile phone number?

A: Providing your personal mobile phone number is optional. It will allow you to receive a one-time SMS code to restore your account in the event you forgot your password or if you are locked out of your account.

Q: What if I don't reactivate my account?

A: On September 30, 2021 any account that are not reactivated will be reset and you will lose access to CSUSB systems.

Q: Will I need to update the passphrase/password on my mobile phone or computer?

A: Yes. Applications that uses the campus Single Sign On will need to re-authenticate with your new passphrase/password. However, certain apps, including your computer login, may cache your credentials temporarily and may not update immediately. Next time you are prompted to enter your CSUSB password, please use your new passphrase/password.

Q: I can't connect to the campus wireless network after I reactivated my account.

A: If your device did not prompt you for your new passphrase/password, you may need to forget the network and reconnect it. Follow these Instructions on how to configure your device for eduroam. Your eduroam username is CoyoteID@csusb.edu. If you need additional technical support, please contact the Technology Support Center at (909) 537-7677 or support@csusb.edu.

Q: Will I still need to use multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

A: Yes, multi-factor authentication using Duo is required per the CSUSB Access Control Standard. Students will be required to use MFA by August 1, 2021.

Q: I think I entered my account information on a suspicious website. What do I do?

A: Remember, CSUSB ITS staff will never ask you for your password. Should you encounter any suspicious activities to harvest your account credentials, please report them to abuse@csusb.edu.
