Message from the Chair,

Greetings students, alumni, community partners, and friends. Welcome to the department of Information and Decision Sciences, and thank you for your time and interest in finding more about our department and the great opportunities that we can offer you to succeed in your future career.


As many of you may know we are living in the era of 4th Industrial revolution driven by exponential changes in technology and that has created significant changes in current and future job opportunities. These changes require different skills and education when you graduate. That is why our undergraduate and graduate degree programs designed to meet the future challenges and offer options in Computer Information Systems, Cyber Security, Intelligence, Business Analytics, Information Systems and Technology, Supply Chain, Logistics and Transportation Management. We also offer minors in Information Systems and Technology and Supply Chain Management and several certificate programs, including Cyber Security, Information Systems Management, SAP and Supply Chain Management. Students are welcome to pursue dual concentrations, dual majors, a major(s) with minor(s) and/or concentration within the department and across the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration.This department is known for its recognized degree and certificate programs by the government agencies, business and professional communities nationally. For example, our department is a national leader in cyber security education. Because of its excellent curriculum and the faculty expertise in cyber security, the university has been designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security since 2008. As a reflection of this excellence, CSUSB is designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense education through 2021. We are further recognized for our specialty areas in Supply Chain and Logistics, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence and Information Technology, Cyber Investigations and Network Security Administration. The department of Information and Decision Sciences has received over 14 million-dollar grants from the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other federal and state agencies. These grants allow us to offer full scholarships to our qualified students and to make our programs available across disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels.


The aforementioned achievements are the reflection of our department focus on developing student skills that meet the immediate needs of employers in local, national, and global communities. Through our various partnerships with communities, other departments and colleges we have created unique curriculum and programs that customize the skill set of our students. Our faculty are committed to world-class teaching by employing innovative teaching approaches including case studies, hands-on exercises, service learning, real-world application, students’ participations, and problem solving to facilitate learning in classrooms. Our faculty engage in cutting-edge applied research in a variety of areas and publish in leading journals. Advisors are available to discuss career options, student leadership opportunities, program and class choices and general questions related to careers.
