California State University, San Bernardino aspires to be a model for transforming lives and ensuring student learning and success. CSUSB is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California, reflecting the dynamic diversity of the region and having the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire. Using this as a foundation, the Department of Housing and Residential Education is creating several new Living Learning Communities through partnerships with University, faculty and staff to provide direct connections to students and linking their curricular with co-curricular experiences to create opportunities to integrate classroom materials and student success.
Black Residential Scholars
The Black Residential Scholars (BRS) Living Learning Community is designed to provide leadership, guidance, mentorship, community and a safe space for those that identify with or are in support of the African/Black Community at CSUSB. The goal of BRS is to support all African/Black students and introduce them to campus resources in order for them to successfully navigate the educational experience at CSUSB. BRS specifically focuses on academic success, community engagement, campus involvement, networking, professional development and community support for all African/Black students.
First Year Experience
The First Year Experience (FYE) Hall is the ideal place for first-year students to live and interact. You’ll be living with other first-year students like yourself and will have proximity to resources to aid in your transition into college life. You will live in a socially supportive environment and have 48 potential “study buddies” in close quarters. You will have increased accessibility to mentoring, networking and relevant programming as compared to students living in other halls.
Green Living/Sustainability House
An important aspect of community living is the responsibility students have in understanding their carbon footprint. Practicing sustainable living at CSUSB is essential to developing their life-long awareness of their impact on the environment. This living learning community strives to provide understanding around water conservation, emissions, recycling, electricity reduction and more. “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it” – Robert Swan
LatinX Residential Scholars
The LatinX Residential Scholars Living-Learning Community seeks to enhance students’ knowledge of the diverse lived experiences of people of Latin descent and is devoted to the exploration and expression of traditional and contemporary aspects of Latin American and Latino intellectual, social, and cultural life.
