2023-2024 Academic Year Housing Application

2023-2024 On-Campus Student Housing Application

Please email housing@csusb.edu if you would like access to the housing application for Fall 2023 (current semester).

The 2023-2024 Academic Year on-campus housing application is available through the Housing Portal starting on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 12 noon.  Students are encouraged to apply early as assignments are made based on application submission date and space availability.

STEP 1 – Consider your options

2023-2024 On-Campus Housing Communities
First-Year Students Coyote Village (traditional-style) 2 students per double room or 1 student per single (limited availability); community bathrooms; meal plan required
Returning (Continuing),  Transfer, and Graduate Students Arrowhead Village and University Village (apartment-style) 1-4 students per apartment; individual bedroom; bathroom per 1-2 residents, shared living room and kitchen; voluntary meal plans available

Limited Inventory Spaces

Some apartment room types comprise a very small number of available spaces. Students will not be able to self-select limited inventory spaces during the room selection process. It is encouraged that applicants select a space in a four-bedroom room type and after selecting that space, add their name to a waitlist in the Housing Portal for limited inventory apartments (studio, AV 2 bedroom/2 bathroom, UV 2 bedroom/1 bathroom). Applicants must have a room assignment before they are eligible to be on the waitlist. Assignment to limited inventory apartments is subject to availability, not guaranteed, and based on original date of application completion. A DHRE team member will reach out to those on the waitlist.

STEP 2 – Submit your Housing Application on the Housing Portal

Apply for on-campus housing in the Housing Portal.  You will be asked to complete the following information as part of the Housing Application process:

  • Demographic Information –  Verify your demographic information.  This is linked to to your student profile which can be updated through myCoyote.
  • Emergency Contact Information – You will be asked to provide the name, telephone number, and email address of someone you designate as your emergency contact person.
  • FERPA Information Release Consent – You will be able to identify a person (parent, guardian, designee) to access your CSUSB Housing records.  Housing and Residential Education will not disclose any information from your records to individuals not identified in the FERPA release section. Read more about your rights under FERPA.
  • Roommate Compatibility – You will complete the Roommate Compatibility questions about room environment and social interactions; your answers will assist in matching Coyote Village roommates or for selecting apartment-mates when choosing a room in Arrowhead Village or University Village. It is important to provide information that accurately reflects you in the Roommate Profile to ensure good matches!
  • LLC Preference – You will have the option to select a Living Learning Community.  Living Learning Communities are limited to space available in the assigned building and/or floor.
  • Gender Environment – Single Gender, Mixed Gender, and Gender-Inclusive Housing.  This section provides you the option to indicate what type of shared space you feel most comfortable by gender identity (where applicable). CSUSB Housing and Residential Education will not ask for any more information than is required to meet students’ housing needs and all information is confidential and protected by FERPA.
  • Room Type Choice (First year students only) – The Coyote Village single room type choice is not guaranteed based on limited inventory.

If you cannot complete your Housing Application in one session, you may return to it and continue where you left off. Do not delay in completing your application, priority is based on the date and time that you complete and submit the application. You will receive a confirmation email upon submission of your application sent to your CoyoteMail (csusb.edu email) account.

STEP 3 – Find Roommate(s)/Apartment-mate(s)

You are encouraged to seek out a roommate or apartment-mate(s) while planning your 2023-2024 on-campus experience.  Talk with friends or use the roommate search feature in the application.  You are only able to request other students who have completed their 2023-2024 application AND have selected the same gender-based housing type and living learning community.

First-Year Students

Coyote Village residents are encouraged to Select a Roommate if interested in living with a specific individual in a double room.  Roommate requests can be made in the Housing Portal following the instructions provided. It is encouraged to select a roommate before room assignments are selected or offered. Only those who accept invitations become a roommate pair.  The roommate selection process will be open May 3, 2023 - May 30, 2023 to allow the best match potentials following the CSUSB commitment date.

Returning (Continuing), Transfer, and Graduate Students

Before Room Selection, we recommend you search for potential roommate(s)/apartment-mate(s) or form a roommate/apartment-mate group.  Click here for instructions.  You will be able to search and request specific roommate(s)/apartment-mate(s), browse best-matched roommates based on specific questions from the Roommate Compatibility Questionnaire, and browse overall best-matched roommates.  Additionally you can form groups of potential roommate(s)/apartment-mate(s).  You will want to discuss with your group specific information to ensure you can view each other's profiles such as living learning community and gender environment. Room Selection times will be posted in the Housing Portal and are based on your application submission date.  You are not required to have a roommate group to receive a time slot for room selection.
