Diverse backgrounds and ideas are crucial to the academic experience, success of students, and to the fulfillment of our institutional mission. They foster a free exchange of ideas from multiple perspectives and experiences. Diversity, equity and excellence are core values of the Division of Student Affairs and educational mission of CSUSB, which is to maximize the potential of students.
Each unit at CSUSB has a unique and active role to play in achieving the diversity goals of the University. The Department of Housing and Residential Education’s goal is to support the mission of the University by being a strong advocate and educator for diversity and social justice, and ensuring that diversity, in its many forms, is understood and valued. The DHRE is committed to confronting situations of intolerance that result from lack of respect, knowledge, or awareness, acts that destroy the communities we share and that are irreconcilable with the mission of the University. Living in a residential community is an exciting and enriching opportunity, and every student should be able to feel at home, safe, included, and welcomed, where each person is valued and respected for their experiences and perspectives.
Diversity and inclusion is more than just meeting a goal. It is also about recognizing that diversity and inclusion cultivate academic excellence. By creating, promoting, and supporting a residential environment where students and staff are provided opportunities and cultural competency to operate in an increasing diverse community; we seek to foster and inspire a climate that is friendly, safe, inclusive and welcoming to all students.
