How To Apply

International Admissions:

International applicants are those who require an F-1 or J-1 visa to study in the United States. Applicants seeking a master’s degree must have obtained a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree and meet the English proficiency requirement for the program. International applicants should contact the CSUSB Center for International Studies and Programs for more information at (909) 537-5288 or international@csusb.edu.  A list of required documents is posted on their website.

Unofficial Transcripts:

To expedite consideration to our graduate program, please upload all unofficial transcripts from institutions you have attended.  The following unofficial transcripts will be required to determine your eligibility:

  • Transcript with your earned degree(s) posted
  • Transcripts with any post-baccalaureate level coursework taken

Upload your unofficial transcripts to the DOCUMENTS section in Cal State Apply (photographs of transcripts are not acceptable). If you are unable to upload your transcripts for any reason, we encourage you to finalize your application and email your unofficial transcripts to gradadmissions@csusb.edu as soon as possible.  However, please note that uploading your unofficial transcripts with your application will help avoid missing program and early registration deadlines.

The Online Application is comprised of four sections

Review our TIPS for completing each of these sections.

Please provide us with some basic information. Fields noted as "Optional" may be skipped. You do not need to enter your individual college coursework under Academic History and may skip over that section. We recommend that you select "I don't have a GPA to add" in the GPA entry field. The Office of Graduate Studies will calculate your GPA as part of our review.

Upload your Statement of Purpose to the Supporting Materials section.

If the program you are applying to requests that letters of recommendation be submitted through Cal State Apply, this will be done in the Program Materials section. Use the Evaluations tab to manage the submission of letters of recommendation. Letter writer email addresses should be from professional or academic organizations (ex. @csusb.edu, @CA.gov or @dell.com), not personal email addresses.

Note that some programs request that letters of recommendation be mailed directly to them as hard copies or E-mailed directly to them. Consult the webpage of the department you are applying to or contact the program coordinator if you have questions about how to submit letters of recommendation.
