Men, Masculinity, & The Media

The media influences and is influenced by ideas surrounding how men should act to achieve masculinity. This presentation will focus on how the portrayal of masculinity has changed in the media throughout the years and how to this day there is not a fixed idea of what masculinity should be – although currently, themes of violence, muscularity, and stoicism are popular. Additionally, participants will get the opportunity to explore how messages and examples of masculinity have shaped their individual meaning of masculinity by examining men in popular films, social media, and more.
