(LEARN Conference) Spoonies at Work

May 24, 2022
2:45pm - 3:45pm
Online

We all have the same number of minutes in the day, but we all do not wake up with same amount of energy. The Spoon Theory, coined by Christine Miserandino, is a way to describe the experiences of those with chronic illnesses as it relates to establishing inclusive and empathetic workplaces. In this session, we will explore what it means to be a “Spoonie” and discuss the following topics:

  • Creating a shared language to foster workplace inclusivity of those with chronic illnesses
  • Acquiring empathy for those in the workplace who may be feeling “tapped out”
  • Supporting “Spoonies” to feel more comfortable expressing their workplace needs
  • Identifying self-care methods in and out of the workplace
