There will be no need to cook your own food; all meals including breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided while you are living on campus Monday - Thursday. Students who wish to bring their own snacks are encouraged to do so.

Where will students stay on campus during Coyote First STEP?

Where will students stay on campus during Coyote First STEP?

Students will stay in University Housing on the CSUSB campus. Rooms are not co-ed. CSUSB Resident Assistants will be present in the halls throughout the day and evenings.

Each residence hall room is equipped with a twin extra-long (35"x 80") mattress, a desk, a chair, a dresser, a closet, drapes, and fluorescent light fixtures. Ironing boards, microwave ovens, washers, and dryers are located in each building.

Home Supplies: A sheet, sleeping bag/comforter (linens will not be provided), pillow, a week’s worth of clothes (casual clothing for class, athletic clothes for outdoor activities, sleepwear), towels and shower shoes, toiletries, laundry soap.

School Supplies: school supplies, backpack, non-perishable snacks, alarm clock.

Computer Supplies: Computer/tablet, Surge protector (must be UL approved). All units have wireless. Some have Ethernet cable capability (cable not provided).

Emergency Supplies: Flashlight, First aid kit

Cleaning Supplies: Laundry detergent, e.g.

Spending money. While meals, housing, and books are paid for by CSUSB for Coyote First STEP students, there may be an occasion that a student wants to purchase a drink, snack, or item from the bookstore on campus.

Prescription Medication

Please do not bring: weapons, fireworks, explosives, or other dangerous items. DO NOT BRING CANDLES OR INCENSE.

Washers and Dryers are equipped to take debit/credit cards only. There are no coin machines available and no laundry soap dispensers to purchase soap.

Washing machines are $1.25 per cycle and dryers are $0.75 per cycle. You will need to make accommodations to bring your own debit/credit card and laundry soap for laundry.

How can I receive an exemption from living on campus/from the program requirement?

How can I receive an exemption from living on campus/from the program requirement?

  • Exemptions from living on campus are available for students who are over 21, married, or raising a family.
  • Exceptions for work, medical, religious, travel and other conflicting obligations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, committee will review all requests, and special requests will only be granted in very unusual circumstances.
  • You must submit supporting documentation regarding your exemption request. Requests without supporting documentation will NOT be processed.

Once your exemption request has been submitted to the committee it may take up to 5 - 7 business days to receive a response.
