CyberCorps®: Scholarship for Service

The CyberCorps® program pays full tuition, books, and a stipend to attend CSUSB for 2 years or 3 years, for a student finishing a bachelors degree and transitioning to a graduate program, prior to graduation. Students who participate in this program must work for the federal government in paid cyber security positions for 2-3 years (period equivalent to the length of the scholarship) after graduation. Awards are between $50-80k per student.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Students participating in the CyberCorps®: SFS program must be:

  • 3.0 GPA or better
  • Enrolled in the final two-three years of a bachelor's, master's, at CSUSB
  • Attending school on a full-time basis (no outside employment) while receiving a scholarship under the SFS program
  • United States Citizenship or Permanent Resident
  • Eligible for federal employment
  • Able to obtain a security clearance

OBLIGATIONS TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Recipients of the CyberCorps® must:

  • Complete the degree program successfully and on time
  • Complete a summer internship with a participating federal agency
  • Fulfill a one-for-one year commitment post-graduation (Students in a two-year program must complete 24 months of working for a federal agency)
  • Attend the annual CyberCorps®: SFS job fair in Washington DC (paid)

If a student fails to complete the period of scholarship or post-academic period of employment, that student must repay a prorated amount equivalent to the length of the period not served. For example, if a student receives funds for two years and serves for one-and-a-half years, he must repay 25% of the funds received.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS SHALL...

  • Receive full tuition support and monthly allowance for related expenses (textbooks, professional certifications and travel)
  • Attend 6 Academic Center of Excellence workshops on career preparation (i.e. resumes, interviewing, etc.)
  • Work in lab 5-10 hours per week or with a faculty advisor as arranged through the Cybersecurity Center)
  • Participate in CSUSB InfoSec club meetings and workshops; join the local FBI 
  • Complete a summer internship with a participating federal agency
  • Fulfill a one-for-one year commitment post-graduation (Students in a two-year program must complete 24 months of working for a federal agency)
  • Participate in two IA professional events (currently CCDC and ITC competitions).
  • Upon graduation, be required to work for federal government for at least 2 years
  • Receive annual stipend of $22.5k for undergraduates, $34 for graduates
  • Attend the annual CyberCorps®: SFS job fair in Washington DC (paid)
  • Maintain lifestyle compatible with federal agency requirements
  • Attend summer bootcamp prior to starting the academic program
  • Schedule cybersecurity classes as part of a cohort group and meet quarterly with SFS academic advisor
  • Hold no outside employment unless approved 
  • Participate in federal summer internship
  • Maintain 3.2 GPA or better
