Darleen Stoner
Environmental Education
Darleen Stoner, professor of environmental education, received the 2004 Governor's Award for excellence in Environmental Education for her work in founding and directing the annual Environmental EXPO at Cal State San Bernardino. The free event grew from a small teacher workshop that Stoner started in 1986, to become the largest environmental education fair in Southern California, and brought about 10,000 people annually to the university. Stoner’s dedication has enabled generations of youngsters to learn about the environment. The Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Awards (GEELA) recipients are chosen from throughout California for building public-private partnerships and for promoting excellence in compatible, sustainable economic development while protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
