Kevin Hatcher, Athletics

New CSUSB athletic director Kevin Hatcher has a lot of perspectives and several U.S. regions to draw from. Raised in Southern California’s Simi Valley, he ran track at Cal Lutheran, obtained a bachelor of arts degree in communication from UC Santa Barbara in 1992, a master’s in kinesiology from Michigan in 1996, and a doctorate in education from University of Texas, El Paso in 2004. He took over at CSUSB in November 2007 for Nancy Simpson, who became athletic director at Anderson University in South Carolina. Hatcher brings much experience in budgeting, fund-raising and generating attendance for athletic events from his varied associate and assistant athletic director posts at Michigan, UTEP, USC and Colgate University in New York. “I look forward to leading a prestigious athletics program,” Hatcher says. At the heart is winning in athletics, but the doctorate part of him emphasizes academic excellence for student-athletes.
