Administrative Council Meeting                                                       May 18, 2009

1.               EOP Program Overview

Dean Clark introduced Veronica Amerson, the Interim Director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), to provide an overview.  Ms. Amerson and her team emphasized this is not an ethnicity-based program.  Mario Baeza, the EOP Admissions Coordinator, shared data on the composition of the program, the admissions process, and who qualifies to participate.

 

2.               Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

Health and Wellness Coordinator Carlos Carrio, along with CSUSB student Monica Talla, discussed the proposed tobacco-free campus policy.  Dr. Karnig asked that the smoke-free areas be identified; the policy will next go to the Faculty Senate.

 

3.               Roundtable

Mr. Gardner disseminated binders containing CSUSB’s Emergency Management Plan.

 

Ms. Rosas discussed application deadlines for transfers and post-baccalaureate students.

 

Dr. Karnig discussed a 1% fee increase for MBA and MA in Accounting students, as well as the issues of the student achievement gap and student remediation.

 

Decisions concerning the shape of AY10-11 will have to be made by this October.

 

Dean Nassar discussed the possibility of a four-day work week.

 

Mr. Wilson discussed a $3 million budget cut and the need to stretch the cut out over time.

 

Dean Clark stated that 755 students have registered for the SOAR Academy.

 

Dean Caballero shared information on the Charlie Clayton Howell collection.
