Centers

Cal State San Bernardino maintains a number of academic centers in partnership with local, regional and national agencies and businesses. Each focuses on advancing the curriculum within its discipline, then putting that academic knowledge into practical use within the community. CSUSB students can participate in research, gain work experience, assist government and business in applying new approaches, obtain specialized education and certification, learn innovative teaching techniques, and even help shape future educational programs.

A network of California Council on Economic Education Centers, mostly based on California State University campuses, including CSUSB, works to expand literacy in economics by training teachers and by reaching out to students, especially those students at risk of dropping out of high school.

Inland Empire teachers can enhance their skills by attending the center’s workshops and seminars. The center provides enrichment activities and presents programs to honor K-12 student achievements.

Community Counseling Center

Cal State San Bernardino Psychology Department faculty and graduate students training to be therapists staff the Community Counseling Center, and can counsel individuals who are having relationship problems, feeling anxious or depressed, or who seek other personal counseling. Located on campus, the center is open between September and June.

Center for Criminal Justice Research (CCJR)

The Center for Criminal Justice Research (CCJR) funds CSUSB faculty and student research and evaluation, and awards grants and contracts to criminal justice agencies and organizations that address local and regional issues. The center contracts its consulting services to community groups and agencies, providing expert research and evaluation.

Center for the Enhancement of Mathematics Education

The Center for the Enhancement of Mathematics Education has developed grant proposals to advance math, science and technology education in the region. It also manages the regional California Mathematics Project and a National Science Foundation scholars program.

Environmental Education Resource Center

The Environmental Education Resource Center contains a collection of environmental education curriculum and other resources to assist educators in designing their programs. The center is the home base for NEST (Network for Environmental Science Teaching), a nonprofit organization which has coordinated numerous educational outreach programs for educators and the public.

Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship (IECE)

The Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship drives students to become entrepreneurs, whether with innovative business ventures, public or nonprofit groups, or within the corporate environment. IECE supports entrepreneurship courses through CSUSB’s College of Business and Public Administration, leading to graduate and undergraduate degrees.

International Center

The International Center assists international students so they may succeed academically and adjust socially to the United States. The international student orientation program, held quarterly, guides graduate and undergraduate students through admissions and academic procedures. Through the CSU system, the IC offers yearlong study abroad opportunities in 17 countries.

Center of Islamic and Middle East Studies (CIMES)

CIMES is a teaching and research center to develop cross-disciplinary curricula, language programs in Arabic, Turkish and Farsi, and to study world affairs issues related to the Middle East.

Leonard Transportation Center

The Leonard University Transportation Center works to discover and implement transportation solutions for the expanding Inland Empire. CSUSB students learn transportation policy and management practices via multidisciplinary course work and research programs. The center focuses on research, education and transfer of the latest technology and methods to public and private users of regional transportation systems.

Cal State San Bernardino’s Literacy Center is designed to help individuals and families incorporate higher literacy within their day-to-day lives. Literacy Center faculty will tutor in reading, writing and oral language for schoolchildren across the K-12 grade levels, as well as for adults seeking better opportunities through literacy.

Center for the Study of Correctional Education

CSUSB’s Center for the Study of Correctional Education houses the most complete collection of correctional education material in the world. The center also provides teacher preparation, research, and support services for veteran and aspiring correctional educators.

Center for the Study of Hate Crimes and Extremism

The Center for the Study of Hate at Extremism at Cal State San Bernardino forms community partnerships to combat bigotry, extremism and terrorism that target people on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, residency or other status characteristics. Objective research and historical information is available from the nonpartisan center to assist with formulating policy and protecting civil or human rights.

University Center for Developmental Disabilities (UCDD)

The University Center for Developmental Disabilities helps children with autism and other developmental disabilities within San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Children receive one-on-one instruction to increase socialization, communication and appropriate behaviors.

CSUSB Center for Equity in Education

The Center for Equity in Education evaluates all levels of the education system. The center focuses on special needs students in public schools with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Programs are developed, researched and evaluated to ensure equal education for all students.
