PROGRAM/ADVANCEMENT TO CANDIDACY
Note: Advancement to candidacy must be processed prior to completion
of 20 quarter units of master’s degree course work. Students
will NOT be permitted to take the comprehensive examination in the
same quarter they are advanced to candidacy.
1. In
addition to the above program admission requirements, master’s
degree candidates must successfully complete the following requirements
in order to be advanced to candidacy:Achieve unconditional admission
to the M.A. in Education: Special Education Option (Mild/Moderate);
2. Completion
of ESPE 624, 637, 655 and 656, with a 3.0 (“B”) GPA
or better with no grade lower than a “B-”.
3. Secure
approval of advancement to candidacy. A Graduate Approved Program
Plan must be prepared in consultation with assigned advisor in
the College of Education and approved by the Chair of the Department
of Special Education. See Master's Degree Program Plan
4. Graduation
Requirements:
In addition to the general requirements listed in the university
Catalog of Programs, candidates must meet the following requirements
for graduation:
1. A
minimum of 48 applicable quarter units of post-baccalaureate course
work, with a minimum of 35 units completed at this university;
Note: The program may not include more than 13 quarter units in
approved CSUSB Extension or transfer courses from other colleges/universities.
CSUSB will not consider the transfer of course work from an institution
which will not accept the course work towards its own advanced degree
program.
2. A
grade point average of 3.0 (“B”) in course work taken
towards the M.A. degree with no grade lower than a “B-”;
3. Successful
completion of the thesis/project and/or comprehensive examination
to meet the university graduation writing requirement; and
4. Candidates
must submit a completed Graduation Requirement Check to the Office
of Admissions and Records at least one quarter prior to the anticipated
quarter of graduation.
