The Special Education Program at California State University,
San Bernardino (CSUSB) offers a graduate course of study
that leads to a California Educational Specialist Credential
and/or a Master's of Arts Degree. Students may choose to
specialize in one of the following four areas: Mild/Moderate
Disabilities, Moderate/Severe Disabilities, Early Childhood
Disabilities, or Gifted and Talented Education.
The Special Education Program affords students the opportunity
to complete their Educational Specialist Credential as
either (1) a conventional student who chooses how long
they wish to be enrolled in the program, or (2) an intern
student who is assigned to a cohort group and must complete
a structured course of study while teaching at the same
time.
The CSUSB Special Education Program specifically prepares
teachers to meet the needs and challenges of the Inland Empire
Region includes the low desert and high desert. This region, which is larger than some states, has
experienced teacher shortages of crisis proportion. Students
at CSUSB are trained to meet the needs of all students and
their families who may be diverse not only in cultural heritage
but also in cognitive, physical, sensory, emotional, and
behavioral skills.
