Early Childhood Level I Credential with EL Authorization/Coursework
Full Admission to the Program
- Official admission to the University
- Official admission to the College of Education Level I ECSE Credential Program
- Completion of pre-requisite coursework or equivalent
Level I Credential Course Requirements: Students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average with no grade lower than a B- in the following courses:
- HD 240 Introduction to Child Development 6.0 units
- PSYC 305 Psycholinguistics of Language 4.0 units
- EELB 315 Reading/Language Arts Curriculum & Pedagogy 3.0 units
- EELB 317 Educational Psychology for a Diverse Society 4.0 units
- ESPE 530* Psychology & Education of Exceptional Individuals 4.0 units *B or better
- ESPE 529* Introductory Methods for Special Education 4.0 units *B or better
- ESPE 637 Assessment and Evaluation 4.0 units
- ESPE 651 Curricular Strategies for Students with Mod./Sev. 4.0 units
- ESPE 660 Instructional Planning for Culturally & Ethnically Diverse 4.0 units
- ESPE 650* Development & Assessment of Young Children 4.0 units
- Winter ONLY
- ESPE 665* Curriculum & Methods in Special Education: ECSE 4.0 units Spring ONLY
- ESPE 515 Language & Literacy for Children under 5 with Special
- Fall ONLY
- ESPE 679F Special Education Fieldwork: ECSE Level I 8.0 units
Note: Students must enroll in two 4.0 unit sections of ESPE 679F for a total of 8.0 units.
Students must apply for fieldwork the quarter prior to when they plan to take the course. See "Fieldwork Application". Application deadlines are as follows:
Winter Quarter -- October 20
Spring Quarter -- February 10
Fall Quarter -- May 5
Upon completion of subject matter competence, U.S. Constitution and Level I Education Specialist Program requirements, students need to apply for a Preliminary Level I Education Specialist Credential or Certificate of Eligibility. Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended other than California State University, San Bernardino, must be submitted to C.A.S.E. along with the application for the Education Specialist Instruction Credential or Certificate of Eligibility.
