Multiple Subjects Credential Program (Elementary Teacher Credentials)

Multiple Subjects Credential Program

 

What is a Multiple Subjects Credential?

 

A multiple subject credential authorizes a person to teach all students including English language learners in a self-contained classroom (grades K-12 but generally K-6).  Teachers with this credential typically teach elementary grades.  Persons who obtain a mulitple subjects credential with BCLAD emphasis are authorized to teach ethnically and linguistically diverse students in a self-contained classroom (grades K-12 but generally K-6) using both English and the student's primary language for instruction.  In order to receive a multiple subjects credential, candidates must complete the following state requirements.

  • Approved Teacher Preparation Program
    (CSUSB's Multiple Subject Program)
  • Baccalaureate Degree
  • Subject Matter Competency through CSET
  • California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
  • Certificate of Clearance
  • U.S. Constitution
  • Assessment of Candidate's Knowledge, Skills and Dispositions
  • Reading Instruction Competency Assessment (RICA)
  • CPR (infant, child, & adult)
  • Language Requirement (BCLAD only)

PROGRAM MISSION:

It is the mission of the multiple subject credential program at CSUSB to prepare future teachers for California schools.  Program coursework is designed to promote reflective practice as credential candidates strive to understand (a) the relationship of theory to sound pedagogical practice, (b) California curriculum and teaching standards, (c) the needs of English learners and students with special needs, (d) the issues of cultural diversity, and (e) the demands of modern society on schooling.

What options does CSUSB Offer?

1.  Multiple Subject Credential Program (MS) for teaching all learners including English learners in a self-contained classroom (K-12).

2.  Multiple Subject Bilingual, Cross cultural, Language and Academic Development (MS BCLAD) Credential Program for teaching in a self-contained bilingual (Spanish and English) classroom (K-12).
