The mission of California State University, San Bernardino is to enhance the intellectual, cultural and personal development of its students. Serving inland Southern California, one of the nation's fastest growing regions, CSUSB seeks to serve the educational needs of the region and the State of California by offering a wide range of academic programs and support services. CSUSB has been chosen as one of the first state universities in California to offer the Doctor of Education Degree (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership.

The mission of the Ed.D. Program is to prepare educational leaders with (a) an advanced, broad and in-depth knowledge base, (b) advanced skills to effectively build and sustain meaningful and purposeful relationships with constituents and (c) well informed and broad based dispositions needed to effectuate reform efforts that result in improved student achievement. At CSUSB, our Ed.D. Program prides itself in preparing candidates who can effectuate positive and sustaining school reform and increase student achievement.

CSUSB's doctoral program

  • Is designed to equip well-prepared administrative leaders with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to effectuate successful reform efforts in California's Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 schools and the State's community colleges,

  • Is focused on practice and applies research tools to the challenges administrators confront in real world contexts in advancing important reforms and improving student achievement,

  • Prepares PreK-12 and community college leaders within a framework of both common and distinctive issues affecting education in the two different sectors,

  • Involves distinguished faculty with varied disciplinary perspectives in coursework examining research, theory, and significant field-based problems and

  • Includes outstanding professional leaders in instructional roles, mentoring roles and in curricular as well as programmatic dialogue and decision-making.

Recognizing the growth and diversity in our school systems and community colleges today, our Ed.D. Program at CSUSB prepares candidates to be outstanding educational leaders in rural, urban and suburban school and community college settings and prepares candidates to make sound decisions within the broader context of equity and social justice.
