Annual Reports |
This discretionary grant program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides six-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school. GEAR UP funds are also used to provide college scholarships to low-income students.
GEAR UP Inland Empire (GUIE) began in 2005 as a partnership grant between California State University – San Bernardino and the districts it serves. GUIE began serving a cohort of 7th graders from the Coachella Valley Unified School District, Nuview Unified School District, and the Rialto Unified School District. This fifteen million dollar plus grant continues to provide services to our cohort of students as they move from 7th grade through 12th grade. In 2007, Heritage High School was constructed, and our original group of Nuview students was split. As a result, Heritage High School of the Perris Unified School District was added to the partnership to continue to support our students.
Currently our cohort consists of 7 high schools within 4 school districts, as follows:
Coachella Valley Unified School District
Nuview Unified School District
Perris Unified School District
Rialto Unified School District
Carter High School
Eisenhower High School
Rialto High School
