Professional Library

The Center has extensive primary and secondary sources on prison reform, juvenile/criminal justice, and correctional education; the only existing, complete collection of the Journal of Correctional Education, from 1937; and an extensive collection of curricula, reports, and professional papers.  The purpose of the library is to serve the information needs of the campus and professional community by making accessible the Center's correctional education materials through the Center library.  The collection is in the process of being cataloged and scanned in preparation for an online retrieval capability.

Research and Evaluation

Current research projects are underway with the City of San Bernardino and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.  Center researchers are available to assist in your research needs.

The Center's evaluation capability is pursued in conjunction with the International Forum for the Study of Education in Penal Systems (IFEPS). The main focus of this work is program evaluation of institutional schools. In association with the Robert Presley Institute of Corrections Research and Training, the Center has developed a program evaluation model tailored especially for correctional education.  The  model has been applied for system evaluations in the California Department of Corrections, California Department of Juvenile Justice, and prison programs managed by New Mexico, Florida, and Orange County, California.  Many Center activities are aligned with parallel endeavors of the National Institute for Correctional Education, which is located at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and correctional educators at Virginia Commonwealth University.
