The Academy is designed to provide training for educational and ancillary staff who serve adjudicated and at-risk students in institutions and alternative instructional settings. It is founded on the assumption that these particular educators play a vital role in the lives of their individual students, and, by extension, in the life of society itself. Educators in these settings are presented with unique challenges. The Academy provides teachers and ancillary staff with the appropriate information, skills and understanding to enable them to meet these challenges with confidence and compassion.
This certificate program that includes 80 hours of university coursework, 60 hours of inservice coursework and 20 hours of regionalize inservice coursework. The Academy enjoys the endorsement of the Juvenile Court/Community School Administrators of California, California Youth Authority, and the Tri-County Chapter of Correctional Education Association.
